Erosion Control – Hydraulically Applied Erosion Control Blankets
Flexible, spray-applied alternatives to geotextiles
Hydraulically applied erosion control blankets represent the modern standard for stabilizing exposed soils and slopes. Instead of manually placing heavy geotextiles, fiber- and binder-based matrices are hydraulically applied to the soil surface, forming a continuous, surface-conforming protective layer.
EuroCover Solutions
At SRBT, two product families form the foundation of this technology:
- Flexible Growth Media (FGM)– engineered for steep slopes and high-risk areas, where erosion protection and vegetation establishment must work hand in hand.
-
Bonded Fiber Matrix (BFM)– optimized for maximum erosion resistance, creating a dense fiber layer that adheres tightly to the soil, even under heavy rainfall or runoff conditions.
Functionality & Objectives
Depending on project requirements, hydraulically applied erosion control blankets can be designed either for:
- Erosion control only: creating a physical barrier that prevents soil particles from being mobilized.
-
Erosion control with revegetation: supporting seed germination and root development while stabilizing the surface.
Both FGM and BFM can be enhanced with additional components:
- Soil conditioners to improve fertility or water retention.
-
Tackifiers to increase bonding strength on steep or sandy substrates.Biotic Soil Media where no topsoil is available, creating a fertile layer for vegetation.Special additives for contaminant binding or pH correction in industrial applications.
Applications
- Infrastructure slopes – highways, railways, airport embankments.
- Mining & industrial sites – covering large exposed surfaces or tailings.
- Waterways & coastal zones – preventing sediment migration into rivers and seas.
- Construction sites – temporary erosion control during building phases.
Advantages of Hydraulically Applied Blankets
- Continuous coverage – no gaps or overlaps as with geotextiles.
- Fast application – several hectares per day possible.
- High adaptability – mixtures can be tailored to site conditions and project goals.
- Environmental safety – no plastic residues, unlike synthetic geotextiles.
- Integration with vegetation goals – erosion control and ecological restoration combined in a single application.
SRBT’s hydraulically applied erosion control blankets combine FGM and BFM as proven cornerstones of slope protection – adaptable to any site, scalable in application, and effective even under the harshest conditions.
Reducing airborne particles for safer, cleaner, and more efficient operations.
